CLASSIFICATION OF COMPETITORS
Professional: Anyone who advertises himself/herself as a professional and/or dance instructor. Anyone who has won a professional division and/or dance is a primary source of income.
Amateur: Anyone who dances as a hobby and who does not make a living out of dancing.
Pro-Am Couple/Partnership: One professional dancer and one amateur dancer. (Note: If same sex partners are entering, previous approval from Head Judge or Event Director must be obtained.)

DEFINITIONS OF DANCE LEVELS
Newcomer Level Dancer A Newcomer Level Dancer is a dance competitor who has never competed in any sanctioned dance competition (not including Jack-n-Jills). No drops, lifts, leans or dips will be permitted. Strictly lead and follow. No costumes are allowed.
Novice Level Dancer A Novice Level Dancer is a dance competitor who has fewer than three winnings at any dance competition and has not taught any type of dance form. No drops, lifts, leans or dips will be permitted. Strictly lead and follow. No costumes are allowed.
Intermediate Level Dancer An Intermediate Level Dancer is one who has not taught the type of dance in which he/she is competing. No drops, lifts, leans or dips will be permitted. Strictly lead and follow.
Advanced Level Dancer Advanced Level is open to all competitors except those who have won a professional competition. No drops, lifts, leans or dips will be permitted. Strictly lead and follow.

HUSTLE DIVISIONS
1. JUST DANCE HUSTLE - Strictly lead and follow competitions. No entrances or exits, lifts, aerials, drops, dips or acrobatic moves permitted. Partnering (adapting to each partners styles), lead and follow, dance ability, technique, floor craft and versatility are important for scoring. Novice & Intermediate level competitors will dance approx. 1½ min. Advanced level competitors will dance approx. 1½ min. to a slow tempo song and approx. 1½ min. to a fast tempo song. Music will be provided by World Hustle Dance Championships. The competition will be divided into three levels of expertise (novice, intermediate, advanced). You may compete in only 1 level for each comp.
2. SILVER/GOLD HUSTLE - A strictly lead and follow competition. Both partners must be 50 years of age or older for Silver and 60 years of age or older for Gold. No entrances or exits, lifts, aerials, drops, dips or acrobatic moves will be permitted. Competitors will dance approx. 1½ min. Music will be provided by World Hustle Dance Championships.
3. PRO-AM HUSTLE - One dancer must be a professional and one must be an amateur. Same sex partners are acceptable (see note in Classification of Competitors). Strictly lead and follow competitions. No entrances or exits, lifts, aerials, drops, dips or acrobatic moves permitted. Competitors will dance approx. 1½ min. to music provided by World Hustle Dance Championships. The competition will be divided into four levels of expertise (newcomer, novice, intermediate, advanced). You may compete in only 1 level for each competition.
4. PRO-AM SPOTLIGHT This is open to all competitors and for any dance style. There are no step restrictions. Routines should be no more than 3½ min. in length. Competitors will provide music to World Hustle Dance Championships in accordance with Rules For Competitors, #10.
5. PRO-AM SPOTLIGHT CLASSIC - This competition is for all levels of dancers who would like to perform & must include 50% recognizable floor dancing. Drops, dips, slides, lunges, side by side movements will be permitted, however 1 foot of each partner must remain on floor at all times. Lifts & aerials are not permitted. Contestants will provide music to World Hustle Dance Championships. See Rules For Competitors #10 regarding music requirements. In addition, all spotlight solo performances should be no more than 3½ min. in length. One placement penalty will be assessed for time limit violation. Routines & costumes encouraged but not required.
6. JACK-N-JILL HUSTLE - Dance partners will be determined by a rotation format. Partnering (adapting to each partners styles), lead and follow, dance ability, technique, floor craft and versatility is important for scoring. Strictly lead and follow competitions. No costumes, routines, entrances or exits, lifts, aerials, drops, dips or acrobatic moves permitted. Novice and Intermediate level competitors will dance approx. 1½ min. Advanced level competitors will dance approx. 1½ min. to a slow tempo song and approx. 1½ min. to a fast tempo song. Music will be provided by World Hustle Dance Championships. 8. AMATEUR CLASSIC HUSTLE - These competitions are for all levels of dancers who would like to perform & must include 50% recognizable hustle floor dancing. Drops, dips, slides, lunges, side by side movements will be permitted, however 1 foot of each partner must remain on floor at all times. Lifts & aerials are not permitted. Contestants will provide music to World Hustle Dance Championships. See Rules For Competitors #10 regarding music requirements. 11. WORLD OPEN HUSTLE DANCE CHAMPIONSHIP This is open to all competitors. A competitor may only enter with 1 partner. Routines should be no more than 3½ min. in length. One placement penalty will be given for time limit violations. Routines must consist of 50% recognizable hustle floor dancing. Timing and balance are extremely important when attempting all lifts, etc. Also, during lifts, the male dancer's importance will not be overlooked for scoring as he must show the utmost in agility and balance for himself and his partner by complementing her every movement.
12. TEAM MATCH COMPETITION - Competitions will be Hustle Division only. Each Team will consist of 4 couples: Couple 1 - Pro / Pro Couple 2 - Pro / Am - Leader male, follower female Couple 3 - Pro / Am - Leader female, follower male Couple 4 - Am / Am Competition Rules: Music will be chosen by World Hustle Dance Championships. Pro-Pro couple will dance to 1 slow song and 1 fast song. All other couples will dance to 1 medium-tempo song. Costumes suggested. Attire will play a part in the judges score. Lifts & drops are allowed for the Pro-Pro couple only.
13. BATTLE OF DJ'S - All competitors must bring their own music (CD's & headphones). Equipment will be supplied by the event and should not be abused. Use of microphone & announcements will be made by head DJ only. Casual & neat dress attire only. No jeans. |
SWING & SALSA DIVISIONS

RULES FOR COMPETITORS 1. Each competitor must behave in accordance with the General Event Rules as outlined. 2. Each competitor must be 18 years of age or older, or have written permission from his/her parent(s) to participate. 3. Each competitor must have a 4-Day Explosion, Gold or Silver Pass to compete. 4. The attire and/or costuming of each contestant will be a consideration in the overall judges marks. 5. In all competitions, each partnership will consist of one male and one female dancer unless otherwise stated in the rules governing that specific competition. For example, Pro-Am, Jack-n-Jack & Jill-n-Jill competitions (if offered) may have same sex partners. 6. No props are allowed except for the World Open Hustle Dance Championship event, however, use of these can affect your overall score. Props will not be allowed for any other division. A prop is defined as any item that is not a part of the regular costume worn by the dancers. 7. Competitors may enter an unlimited number of competitions, but are restricted from competing in more than one category in the competition division. For example: A competitor in Just Hustle would have to choose either novice, intermediate or advanced and then may only compete at that level in that division. 8. Besides dancing in his appropriate age level, a contestant may also compete in any lower age division. 9. If there are fewer than five entries in any division, the Event Director reserves the right to cancel that division or combine it with another division. 10. For Pro-Am Spotlight & Spotlight Classic, Amateur Classic Hustle/Swing & the World Open Hustle Dance Championship competition, all music must be supplied by competitors on CD. Supplied music must be labeled with the competitor's name, contest division & track number. Please bring a spare copy of your music. Management is not responsible for poorly-recorded music media. Please present music to Dee Jays at least 1 hour prior to the competition heat. 11. For all other competitions, music will be selected at the discretion of the Event Director and the Dee Jays. 12. Competitions for Just Dances, Jack-n-Jill, Jill-n-Jack and Pro-Am are "lead and follow" competitions. No entrances or exits, lifts, aerials, drops, dips or acrobatic moves will be permitted. No costumes are permitted at Novice levels. 13. Newcomer, novice and intermediate level competitors will dance for approx. 1½ min. Advanced level competitors will dance approx. 1½ min. to a slow tempo song and approx. 1½ min. to a fast tempo song. Music will be provided by World Hustle Dance Championships. There may be more than one couple on the floor at the same time. 14. Contestants are advised to enter at their appropriate skill level based on a realistic assessment of ability & competitiveness (newcomer-noviceintermediate-advanced). 15. It is recommended that all competitors attend the scheduled competitor's meeting. **Note** - If unable to attend please see the Head Judge at least 1 hour before the scheduled competition. 16. The Head Judge can disqualify any competitor who walks off the floor once the music has started. 17. Each competitor must sign the LIABILITY RELEASE WAIVER on the bottom of the registration form. |
GENERAL EVENT RULES
1. While on the event grounds, all attendees shall conduct themselves in a civil manner. Management reserves the right to restrict, remove, and /or prohibit any competitor, attendee, or vendor from the event due to misconduct, inappropriate behavior, inappropriate appearance, or the distribution of promotional materials not previously approved for distribution by the Event Director. No refund will be provided. 2. Absolutely no video cameras, still or digital cameras will be allowed in any of the ballrooms at any time during this event. This will be strictly enforced! The Event Director reserves the right to confiscate any photographic media obtained during restricted events. Violators may be dismissed from the event with no refund. 3. All decisions of the judges are final. Verbal or physical abuse by any competitor toward any judge or member of the dance staff will be considered inappropriate behavior and be cause for removal of that competitor from the event. 4. Wristband/pin must be worn at all times. If lost, a new one must be purchased. If cut off, a photo ID & the old wristband will be needed for replacement. 5. All attendees must sign a LIABILITY RELEASE WAIVER.

JUDGING AND SCORING
1. Judges who are also "active professional competitors" may judge categories in their specialty dance(s), and all categories of their non-specialty. 2. Each competing person/couple will be judged on the following criteria: - a) Execution and Timing - b) Level of Difficulty - c) Showmanship and Styling (open to all styles & interpretations) - d) Partnering Skills (adapting to each partners styles, teamwork, lead and follow, connection) - e) Presentation (competitors attire will be part of the presentation mark) 3. Scoring for each individual competition will be based on skating system. Couple will be placed based on order of merit. 4. Judges scores will be reviewed and posted by the Head Judge. 5. The Head Judge and/or Event Director will be responsible for decisions concerning ties, scoring system methods, enforcement of each specific contest category rule, placement penalties, disqualifications or any general problem arising over the judges' marks. NOTE: The Head Judge's final decision will be firmly upheld and is not subject to protest. 6. The Head Judge and/or Event Director reserves the right to disqualify contestants based on unsportsmanlike conduct. 7. Each competitor and/or competing couple's score will be posted at the World Hustle Dance Championships on Sunday. They will also be posted on the website.
